About Access Music Education

The Access Music Education (AME) Award was established to provide financial assistance for Squamish students (K-12) who wish to pursue studies in the performing arts. In 2003/04 the HSPAA youth program organizers found that some students in our community were in need of assistance to fund music lessons and summer music programs which led to the creation of AME in 2005. Funds have been generated through generous community donations and concerts featuring local students and teachers. The first awards were given in 2006. Awareness of this program has grown over the years and HSPAA is pleased to see the number of applicants accessing this fund increase year after year.

Students have used these funds to pay for private piano, violin, clarinet, flute, guitar, and voice lessons. Some youth have put the money towards weekly classes or summer programs in theatre, dance, band, voice, choral, rock, jazz, celtic, classical, and folk music. AME also provides the funds for Scholarships to Howe Sound Secondary graduating students.

Application forms are available to download from HSPAA website. Please refer to the form for further details concerning the requirements, submission deadlines, distribution of funds and contact names for any additional questions about completing the application.

The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association (HSPAA) uses all the funds raised at their annual AME Concert in November and bi-annual Star Search concert towards this program. Other “by donation” events raising funds for AME have been the monthly Lunch Hour Concerts and the Saturday Afternoon Concert series hosted by Squamish Academy of Music. Keep a watch for posters advertising upcoming events.
